2006 TOYOTA ESTIMA

Stock # 847
$41,800
This 2006 Toyota Estima with very little mileage is truly one of a kind. It has so many accessibility features including; hand controls for acceleration and braking, vehicle spinner knob on the steering wheel, electric sliding doors in the middle row plus rear hatch opening and closing controls from the front dash and a middle row transfer chair. The most impressive feature is a wheelchair pod on the roof with a hoist on the driver's side that lifts up and will store a fold up manual wheelchair in the pod. In order for the driver to work the hoist there is a removable seat which attaches to the drivers seat. Check out the video above which shows all these features. Make sure you watch it to the end to see exactly how the hoist and pod work - it's pretty cool to watch!

About the Toyota Estima

This is a Toyota factory designed, engineered welcab with all kinds of features. Estima's are family cars or cars for people who prefer a vehicle which is spacious, adaptable and versatile.
It seats 7 with a transfer chair in the left middle seat and a reclining seat on the right. It has three seats in the rear which all electrically fold forward and slide back perfectly into a cavity in the boot which creates a large flat rear boot space. These rear seats can operate individually – the left single seat lowered and the right two seats remaining upright if required and vice versa.

It has stereo volume and mode controls on the steering wheel, rear parking sensors and an AFS Adaptive Front-lighting System which optimises the distribution of light from the headlights according to driving circumstances. Depending on vehicle speed and steering, the system points the low-beam headlights in the direction the driver is travelling.

Toyota Estima Accessibility Features

As mentioned above the middle left side passenger seat is a turn out transfer chair. Operated by a button on the bottom left side of the seat, it sits on an electric arm which - in one motion - turns the seat 90 degrees, extends it out and beyond the vehicle and then lowers it to a position above the ground. This seat can accommodate a passenger of up to 100 kg.

The drivers chair has a side part attachment - a small black seat affixed to a sturdy metal frame which the wheelchair passenger can pretty easily take off and put on. The passenger can then transfer and sit on the attached seat in order to help guide the wheelchair down from the roof pod or prepare the wheelchair to go up and into the pod.

A switch on the right side of the steering wheel activates the roof pod and turns it to the right 90 degrees. An aluminium automatic loading platform with a protective material lowers – this acts to help raise the wheelchair into the pod. Once this has lowered to its correct position a winch is activated to lower from inside the pod.

Once the winch has lowered it can be securely hooked around the wheel chair. Once the wheelchair is secured, a switch on the dash can be activated to raise it up towards the pod. The passenger is at the perfect position to safely aid and guide the raising of the wheelchair. Once the wheelchair is at the height of the platform it will lift the wheelchair cleanly into the pod. Please see the video above to see this process in motion.

Once the w/c is inside, the pod will then turn 90 degrees back to its original position on the roof.
Once complete the driver can push backwards onto the drivers seat, lift the seat attachment and place it inside.

Toyota Estima Engine, Economy & Reliability

The Estima is the Japanese version of the Australian Tarago. They are essentially the same vehicle. This Estima is a 2.4 Litre 4 Cylinder petrol automatic. With only 6,880 km on the clock it is pretty much a new car with accessibility features that have barely been used.

As we have said many times before Toyota has a long history of being the largest selling manufacturer in the world. Their engines are world renowned for their reliability and longevity. In our opinion if the car is serviced every 10,000 km you will be able to depend on your vehicle and have trouble free driving for many years. If you’re after peace of mind and reliability for your wheelchair vehicle, then a Toyota welcab is a perfect choice. Don't let us tell you. Come try and test drive one for yourself or participate in out 'try before you buy' scheme.

2010 TOYOTA PORTE

Stock # 722
$33,800
If freedom to drive again is what you want then look no further than this extremely unique SELF DRIVE Porte. This extraordinary car is perfect for those wanting to get back behind the wheel feel free and independent.

Toyota factory engineers have developed this car with an OEM - Original Equipment Manufactured disability hand control driving system and driver’s power wheelchair. Please see the photos above as in this case - seeing is believing! You can use regular foot pedals also as per a standard car.

Almost as a bonus to this one of a kind self-drive car it also happens to have just 28,300 km on the clock so presents as new with a lovely silver exterior and beige interior.

About this Vehicle
The Toyota Porte has quickly become our most popular compact wheelchair access car. The engineering in the Porte is incredible – this self-drive - even more so.

What’s really cool is the large sliding door on the passenger side. It makes transferring in and out of the car a breeze. Add to that the compact size, great overall visibility, ease of use and excellent economy, it’s an excellent choice. It’s the perfect size for 2 passengers plus the person in a wheelchair.

Wheelchair Features
Without exception, clients are amazed the first time they witness the incredible engineering of the Toyota Porte – and this one is even more exceptional.

This car has an OEM power wheelchair fitted into the driver’s seat. At the push of a button the driver’s seat moves into the correct position which then enables it to move sideways towards the passenger door. The chair then rotates 90 degrees so that it now faces outside. The arm then lowers the chair to the ground.

The wheelchair passenger can detach from the ‘arm’ on which it sits by using the toggle on the arm of the power chair to move forward. The chair is powered by a battery source at the back of the chair. This battery enables the chair to travel an incredible 4.5km. That gives you more than enough power to head to the mall, to the beach, or as many of our clients have told us – a car like one of these has allowed them to go back to work.

When re-entering the car, the wheelchair is simply positioned onto the extended electric arm which then raises the wheelchair back into the car. turns 90 degrees to return the chair to the correct position and enable it to slide back to the drivers position again.

Wheelchair & Car Dimensions
As mentioned before this wheelchair vehicle is all about the passenger door. In case your French is a little rusty, 'Porte' is logically French for 'door'.

The powered passenger door opens to a remarkable 116.5cm tall and 102cm wide making it an excellent size for a wheelchair. Until we saw our first Toyota Porte, we couldn’t believe how much access you genuinely get with this intelligently designed sliding door.

There is a staggering overall internal height of 138cm. This is due to the cleverly designed flat floor and higher roofline for the factory wheelchair access versions.

Overall Vehicle Dimensions Height: 172cm | Length: 399cm | Width: 169cm

There is a very handy boot space and the rear seats can easily fold down to provide even more space if required.

It's very important that you measure the wheelchair person sitting in their wheelchair from ground level to the top of their head to ensure this vehicle is right for them.

Engine, Economy & Reliability
This Porte has a reliable 1.3 Litre 4 Cylinder 2NZ-FE engine. For the frugal ones among you this car operates at around 20.6 km/L Arguably the most fuel-efficient wheelchair access car on the market today.

We’ve got the largest range of Porte’s in the country so please feel free to contact us for a inspection or test drive of this great little car.
