The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) empowers people with disabilities and their families by providing support to enhance their quality of life and achieve their goals.

To become an NDIS participant, you must meet residency requirements and demonstrate a permanent disability that affects daily activities. Support funding is based on individual needs, goals, and aspirations. Once participants receive their plan, they have the freedom to choose and control their supports from a wide range of providers.

How Some Clients Have Used Their Assistive Technology Funding:

• Accessing the Local Community: Some clients have used wheelchair-accessible vehicles to attend essential appointments or participate in critical activities where no other suitable transport options were available.
• Trialling a Vehicle: You might be able to use your funding to trial a wheelchair-accessible vehicle when exploring NDIS-funded modifications (consult your NDIS Planner or Support Coordinator for advice).
• Temporary Replacement Vehicle: In certain cases, clients have used their funding for a replacement wheelchair-accessible vehicle while their own is being modified, repaired, or serviced.
• Taking a Break or Respite: Some clients have accessed larger vehicles to accommodate their needs and equipment during a much-needed break or respite. Others have rented vehicles while travelling away from home if their own modified vehicle was unavailable.
