2018 TOYOTA SPADE

Stock # 991
$39,800
This 2018 dual power electric wheelchair 4WD Spade really has the 'wow' factor. This is not just because of all its extra features - it is also because it has only been driven 1,800 km! Not surprisingly it presents immaculately inside and out. This car meets the NDIS requirements for funding for a modified vehicle as it is under 5 years old and 80,000 km. We can work with your OT to determine if this is the perfect car for you.

With a beautiful midnight blue exterior and a complimentary brown interior this like new model Spade comes with all the technology, bells and whistles you'd expect from a quality Toyota vehicle. It is a 4WD which is mind blowing considering its size. It has traction control, forward collision assistance, lane departure assistance, auto high beam and a carplay stereo system just to name a few of its amazing features.

Why the Spades have become so popular so fast

The Toyota Spade has quickly become our most popular compact wheelchair access vehicle for a number of reasons. Firstly according to customer feedback, clients can travel in the front passenger seat with the driver beside them. They feel connected with the driver rather than being chauffeured in the rear of a larger people mover - which for many are the stereotypical wheelchair vehicles on offer. Secondly our customers love driving in a wheelchair vehicle which is a small car. They love the ease with which they can drive, park and the economy of owning a small vehicle. Lastly they love that the passenger chair is also a wheelchair.

What's significantly different about these vehicles is the large sliding door on the passenger side. It was built specifically for a wheelchair to transfer in and out of the car. See the photos above and check out the video which shows exactly how the wheelchair accessibility feature works.

It’s the perfect size vehicle for up to 2 -3 passengers plus the person in a wheelchair. We recommend you come and see it for yourself or give us a call and we may be able to arrange for you to see one.

Wheelchair Accessible Feature

Without exception, clients are amazed the first time they witness the incredible engineering of the Toyota Spade wheelchair feature. As we said above it's a good idea to watch the video above.

The Spade has an OEM wheelchair fitted into the passenger seat. The chair is sitting on an electric arm which rotates and lowers out of the vehicle and then detaches. The chair is powered by a battery which is housed behind the wheelchair. The carer can easily push or drive the wheelchair from the rear. The wheelchair occupant can also drive the chair via a toggle on the arm of the wheelchair. When re-entering the car, the wheelchair is simply positioned onto the extended electric arm which then raises the wheelchair back into the car, turns 90 degrees to return the chair to the correct position.

Wheelchair & Overall Dimensions

As mentioned before this wheelchair vehicle is all about the passenger door. The powered passenger door opens to a remarkable 1165 mm tall and 1020 mm wide making it an excellent size for a wheelchair to exit and enter. Until we saw our first Spade we couldn’t believe how much access you genuinely get with this intelligently designed sliding door.

There is a staggering overall internal height of 1380 mm. This is due to the cleverly designed flat floor and higher roof-line for the factory wheelchair access versions.

Overall Vehicle Dimensions

Height: 1720 mm
Length: 3990 mm
Width: 1690 mm

Toyota Spade Engine and Economy

This Spade has a 1.5 Litre 4 Cylinder engine. For the frugal ones among you this car operates at around 20.6 km/L. Arguably the most fuel efficient wheelchair access car on the market today.

2010 TOYOTA PORTE

$23,900
This gold 2010 Toyota Porte dual power wheelchair side access has travelled just 17,200 km. It’s evident from our thorough vehicle inspections that this car has been meticulously cared for over its life and is a genuine one (fastidious) owner car.

Combined with the low km’s, tasteful light interior and metallic gold colour it’s a lovely little car and at this price won’t last long.

About This Car

The Toyota Porte has quickly become our most popular compact wheelchair access car because, according to customer feedback, clients can actually travel in the front passenger seat with the driver beside them. They feel connected rather than being chauffeured in the rear of a larger people mover - which for many are the stereotypical wheelchair vehicles on offer.

What’s really cool is the large sliding door on the passenger side. It makes transferring in and out of the car a breeze. Add to that the compact size, great overall visibility, ease of use and excellent economy, and it's easy to see why it’s an excellent choice and bigger isn't always better.

It’s the perfect size for up to 4 passengers plus the person in a wheelchair.

Wheelchair Accessible Feature

Without exception, customers are amazed the first time they witness the incredible engineering of the Toyota Porte wheelchair feature. A battery powered luxury wheelchair (which comes with the car) sits on an electric arm which rotates and lowers the wheelchair out of the car.

The chair then detaches for use and the person drives away. There are hand controls on both the wheelchair itself for the passenger as well as additional controls at the rear of the chair for the carer should they be required.

When re-entering the car, the wheelchair is simply positioned onto the extended electric arm which then raises the wheelchair back into the car, and turns 90 degrees to return the chair to the correct position.

The passenger wheelchair seat is especially clever and warrants further elaboration. It’s a fully autonomous power wheelchair with up to 4.5km’s travel distance on a single charge.

More About The Toyota Porte

The powered passenger door opens to a remarkable 1165 mm tall and 1020 mm wide making it an excellent size for a wheelchair. Until we saw our first Toyota Porte we couldn’t believe how much access you genuinely get with this intelligently designed sliding door.

There is a staggering overall internal height of 1380 mm. This is due to the cleverly designed flat floor and higher roofline for the factory wheelchair access versions. Rather than looking like an afterthought, you probably would never have noticed the higher roof because it is so well done and disguised in the overall car design.

There is a very handy boot space and the rear seat can easily fold down to provide even more space if required. Perfect for a weekend away on a shopping spree (if you're that lucky!).

For the frugal ones among you, the penny pinchers, the bargain hunters, you’ll love to know that the car operates at only 8.9L/ 100km. Arguably the most fuel efficient wheelchair access car on the market today.

We’ve got the biggest range of Porte’s in the country and all are available for inspection or test drive so please feel free to pop down and check out this fantastic wheelchair car for yourself.

It's in great condition inside and out and is the perfect car for somebody that doesn't want the standard looking wheelchair van because this looks more like a luxury van than a wheelchair vehicle. 2009 NISSAN SERENA

Stock # 978
$29,800
This wine red 2009 Nissan Serena Lifecare wheelchair accessible vehicle is great value for a wheelchair accessible vehicle with remote operated wheelchair ramp and restraints all designed and manufactured in the Nissan factory in Japan by Nissan's top engineers. Nissan are very reliable and buying a Nissan Lifecare wheelchair accessible vehicle is always gonna be cheaper and easier than waiting for a local car conversion company.

The Nissan Serena was the best selling minivan in Japan in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and its easy to see why. This Serena has a spacious interior shape, large enough to hold 2 wheelchair spots. One in the middle row and or one in the rear. This van is a sloper meaning the ramp at the back folds out by remote and lowers by hydraulics to 11 degrees to help the wheelchair or scooter occupant get in the in the van much easier.

This Serena drives so smoothly that it's easy to forget that its a wheelchair accessible van. It's a 5 door with 6 fixed seats. The rear row of seats fold away when not in use and the two wheelchair spots with restraints for the wheelchairs are controlled by remote.

All the wheelchair features in this van were all made by Autech in collaboration with Nissan. It is our belief that they are a far superior vehicle for the wheelchair passenger than after market modified cars and vans simply because the whole car was created from the beginning to carry a wheelchair passenger. The engine was designed to carry the weight of a wheelchair plus passenger in the rear and the suspension was designed specifically with the wheelchair passenger in mind.

Our customers are always impressed and surprised by the simplicity of these vehicles and always leave happy with their new car.

2015 NISSAN NV200

Stock # 955
$29,800
I know style isn’t everything but the Nissan designers do a pretty good job of this NV200 which seats 4 with wheelchair ramp in the rear. It is 5 years old and has travelled 58,000 km so is within the NDIS Guidelines for a Vehicle with Second Hand Already Modified Vehicle Funding. We can work with your OT to ensure that your wheelchair fits perfectly and safely in the vehicle. Call us now to speak with our Ndis experts to find out how this works.

The exterior shape is pleasing and fits into any car park. The interior has patterned beige cloth seats that match nicely with the black floor carpets, the black beige and silver dash and the steering wheel. They also boast handy orange handrails to aid transfer in and out of the vehicle for those seated in the middle row. These handrails can be kept or removed if not needed.

All this value in a car for a price that is less than the price of a local aftermarket ramp – amazing but true!

About this Vehicle

Released by Nissan in 2009 and winning International Van of the Year in 2010. This 2015 NV200 has so much to offer. It seats 2 + 2 and wheelchair in the rear. It has a functional interior space with options to easily remove features like seats and grab rails depending on what you need. A stunning blue metallic exterior with black trim and a stylish modern shape. (I suggest you take a look at the photos above). Added to this it has travelled a mere 58,000 km but most importantly it is obvious that it has been regularly serviced and well looked after.

Wheelchair Features

The Vanette Life Care is a specialized version of NV200 Vanette with a wheelchair entrance at the rear. The Nissan engineers have created a simple and effective design where a wheelchair can be easily and safely loaded into what is essentially a small van.

These specialised vans are all custom made so they have different wheelchair accessibility features. This one has room in the rear to fit 1 wheelchair, 2 seats in the middle row and 2 in the front. The middle seats are bolted to the floor and can easily be removed if they are not needed. This gives the added option of a much larger space for the wheelchair occupant to use if needed.

The rear ramp is light weight and aluminium which is manually pulled out and lowered to the ground. The wheelchair space has 2 front retractable belts which can be extended to the end of the ramp and hooked onto the wheelchair. The belts act like a seatbelt locking into place as the wheelchair enters the vehicle.

Two Q Straint circular pockets have been placed at the front of the wheelchair also and can be used if preferred. Please see the video above. 2 rear Q Straints hold the rear of the wheelchair to the floor of the vehicle and hold the wheelchair safely.

Being a van, it has plenty of interior room for passengers to move within. This is absolutely a plus for a wheelchair access vehicle especially if you’re travelling and need extra room for all the bits and bobs you may need to travel with.

Our clients often say it’s important for them to be able to see through the windows of a car easily - these vans have excellent vision for all within. Our clients have also expressed their surprise when discovering how easy the NV200 is to drive – the joy of powered steering means the van drives like a small car but with all the added space, versatility, visibility and comfort of a larger car that’s actually not that much bigger than a sedan (check out car measurements below).

Wheelchair & Car Dimensions

Approximate interior dimensions of the wheelchair:
Height: 135-140cm | Length: 107cm | Width: 66cm

Overall Vehicle Dimensions:
Height: 183cm | Length: 440cm | Width: 169cm

It's very important that you measure the wheelchair person sitting in their wheelchair from ground level to the top of their head to ensure this vehicle is right for them.

Engine, Economy & Reliability

A 1.6L 4 Cylinder HR16DE petrol engine which according to Nissan travels approx 14 km per litre which is good value motoring.

Toyota and Nissan engines are world renowned for their longevity and reliability which is why they are the main brands we stock. As long as their car engines are well serviced, they are built to travel many hundreds of thousands of km with ease.
