Wheelchair Features
The Toyota Alphard is specially designed in factory by Toyota’s engineers and they are built with a welcab feature such as a sloper, a transfer chair or a transfer wheelchair.

This Alphard is a sloper – it is named after the hydraulic sloping mechanism in the rear of the vehicle. As the car lowers an electric ramp unfolds at the same time. The lightweight yet strong aluminium ramp touches the ground at a 9 to 12-degree angle allowing a gentle incline for the wheelchair occupant to be loaded into the car.

When inside the car, Original Engineered and Manufactured (OEM) retractable belts and wire cables safely and securely lock the wheelchair in place for safe motoring. At the push of a button the belts and wire cables lock the wheelchair into a fixed position so the wheelchair is extremely safe.

We also fit International standard ‘Q-Straints’ or similar to each car to meet Australian Design Regulations (ADR’s) when required. This gives you an additional method to further secure your wheelchair for your safety.

In our opinion local aftermarket conversions simply cannot match the standards, resources, vehicle knowledge, and manufacturing quality of Toyota. That’s why Toyota’s welcab vehicles are so superior.

This is a battery powered transfer wheelchair 2008 Toyota Porte. It has a stunning metallic silver exterior and tasteful cream interior. The Porte is like the Welcab (wheelchair accessible vehicle) version of the Toyota Yaris.

It's a lovely little car, perfect for a couple where one has a little trouble walking but want to get out and about with their partner in the drivers seat.

About This Car

The Toyota Porte has quickly become our most popular compact wheelchair access car because, according to customer feedback, clients can actually travel in the front passenger seat with the driver beside them. They feel connected rather than being chauffeured in the rear of a larger people mover - which for many are the stereotypical wheelchair vehicles on offer.

What’s really cool is the large sliding door on the passenger side. It makes transferring in and out of the car a breeze. Add to that the compact size, great overall visibility, ease of use and excellent economy, and it's easy to see why it’s an excellent choice and bigger isn't always better.

Wheelchair Accessible Feature

Without exception, customers are amazed the first time they witness the incredible engineering of the Toyota Porte wheelchair feature. It has a battery powered luxury wheelchair (which comes with the car). It sits on an electric arm which rotates and lowers the wheelchair out of the car.

The chair then detaches for use and the person literally can drive away. There are hand and power controls on the back of the wheelchair for the carer to assist with getting around easier.

When re-entering the car, the wheelchair is simply positioned onto the extended electric arm which then raises the wheelchair back into the car, and turns 90 degrees to return the chair to the correct position.

The passenger wheelchair seat is especially clever and warrants further elaboration. It’s a fully autonomous power wheelchair with up to 4.5km’s travel distance on a single charge.

More About The Toyota Porte

The powered passenger door opens to a remarkable 1165mm tall and 1020mm wide making it an excellent size for a wheelchair. Until we saw our first Toyota Porte we couldn’t believe how much access you genuinely get with this intelligently designed sliding door.

There is a staggering overall internal height of 1380mm. This is due to the cleverly designed flat floor and higher roofline for the factory wheelchair access versions. Rather than looking like an afterthought, you probably would never have noticed the higher roof because it is so well done and disguised in the overall car design.

There is a very handy boot space and the rear seat can easily fold down to provide even more space if required. Perfect for a weekend away on a shopping spree (if you're that lucky!). Some other great feature include central locking, power windows and power mirrors.

For the frugal ones among you, the penny pinchers, the bargain hunters, you’ll love to know that the car operates at only 8.9L/ 100km. Arguably the most fuel efficient wheelchair access car on the market today.

This 2018 4WD diesel Toyota Hiace Commuter Welcab. It has a power wheelchair hoist in the rear and is really in excellent condition. With only 60,000 km on the clock it is the perfect vehicle for anyone wanting to transport a larger group of people. It has just arrived from Japan. If you’re looking for a durable and reliable car to transport a maximum of 7 plus 2 wheelchairs then look no further. This like new Hiace Commuter would be excellent as a school bus run, community bus, aged care facility bus or it would suit a large family with wheelchair needs.

This van has been manufactured in the Toyota factory as a wheelchair accessible vehicle so the suspension for the wheelchair participant is gentle and smooth and the hoist is made to fit this particular vehicle.

All our Hiaces come with dual airbags and come with a VSCCS (Engineers certificate) for the wheelchair positions.

Safety handrails for wheelchair occupants and double seatbelts ensure passengers are looked after in the rear of the vehicle. There are also handrails for the second row seats as well as power windows A/C, airbags, central locking and child restraints.

Toyota Hiace Wheelchair Feature

The wheelchair accessible features on the Hiace were designed and engineered in the Toyota factory. It was fitted with an easy to use power operated wheelchair hoist and facilitates a simple powered entry, a smooth ride and excellent vision for the wheelchair passenger. It has a large lift capacity of 300 kg so is able to lift the heaviest wheelchairs and passengers.

Integrity have fitted ADR Compliant QRT -1 Series Q Straints to both wheelchair positions. One on the hoist and one in the interior of the vehicle. Both positions have 4 securement point Q Straints - 2 in front and 2 in the back of the wheelchair. Both positions also have lap and shoulder belts. Please see the photos above which show the interior and Q Straints.

In our opinion the standards, vehicle knowledge and manufacturing quality of Toyota Welcabs are excellent with regards to rear ramps, hoists and suspension. That coupled with the easy to use quick lock Q Straints which are fastened into the vehicles when they arrive in Australia makes for a perfect solution for Australian families and businesses looking for a cost effective transport solution.
