Wheelchair Accessible Feature

Without exception, clients are amazed the first time they witness the incredible engineering of the Toyota Spade wheelchair feature. As we said above it's a good idea to watch the video above.

The Spade has an OEM wheelchair fitted into the passenger seat. The chair is sitting on an electric arm which rotates and lowers out of the vehicle and then detaches. The chair is powered by a battery which is housed behind the wheelchair. The carer can easily push or drive the wheelchair from the rear. The wheelchair occupant can also drive the chair via a toggle on the arm of the wheelchair. When re-entering the car, the wheelchair is simply positioned onto the extended electric arm which then raises the wheelchair back into the car, turns 90 degrees to return the chair to the correct position.

Wheelchair & Overall Dimensions

As mentioned before this wheelchair vehicle is all about the passenger door. The powered passenger door opens to a remarkable 1165 mm tall and 1020 mm wide making it an excellent size for a wheelchair to exit and enter. Until we saw our first Spade we couldn’t believe how much access you genuinely get with this intelligently designed sliding door.

There is a staggering overall internal height of 1380 mm. This is due to the cleverly designed flat floor and higher roof-line for the factory wheelchair access versions.
